It has been known by many titles… ERS, Egyptian Ratscrew, Egyptian Rat Screw, Egyptian Rat, Rat Screw, Egyptian War, Rat, Slap… but, no matter what you call it, the fact remains that ERS is the most fantastic card game in the history of ever… yes, ever. Don’t believe me? Read on.

The Birth of Awesomeness

The truth is, the origins of Egyptian Ratscrew are as enigmatic as the pyramids. Through research and investigation, we have discovered that ERS, like most of the best things in life, is an amalgamation that has developed and evolved over time until it has reached its current state of near-perfection. It started way back in the 1800′s with some Brits and a game called Beggar-My-Neighbour (that’s how they spell neighbor in Britain). It was eventually combined with the element of slapping, taken, possibly, from Slapjack… and yada yada yada… people all over the United States are going slaphappy, carrying a deck of cards with them everywhere just in case, joining in pick-up games with random strangers at their local Chipotle Mexican Grill, and saying things like, “Grr…you stole my jack.” Its popularity continues to spread like an infectious disease… but one that is fun, and exciting, and not a disease at all, but a life-affirming card game… a card game of speed, and skill, and mental dexterity.
